The Old Bridge

previous painting ........ next painting

The Old Bridge in Pontypridd is an arched single-span footbridge that spans the river Taff. The bridge was built by William Edwards and was complete in 1756. There were three previous bridges in that spot that washed away or collapsed.

This one was and continues to be successful due to the holes that allow a swollen river to pass through without destroying it. It was the longest bridge in Great Britain for 40 years. I did a number of Old Bridge paintings.
