Autumn Aspens, Telluride Valley
Autumn Aspens, Telluride Valley
30 x 40 inches
This painting captures a fleeting moment of autumn in the Telluride Valley, where a brilliant stand of aspens glows against the cool, receding forms of the surrounding mountains.
What drew me to this scene was the contrast, the intensity of the golden foliage set against the deep greens and blues of the valley and peaks beyond. The aspens form a luminous band of light across the middle of the composition, almost like a visual pause between the open field in the foreground and the rising structure of the mountains behind.
Painted with an emphasis on atmosphere and simplified design, the foreground remains soft and understated, allowing the eye to move naturally toward the light filled trees and then back into the distance. The shifting cloud cover adds a sense of movement, echoing the transient nature of the season itself.
There’s a quiet stillness here, but also a sense of change, that brief window when everything feels heightened before the landscape settles into winter.
The painting is presented in a light wood effect maple floater frame, complementing the warmth of the autumn palette.
