“Balance of Planes” — Équilibre des Plans
Balance of Planes
Mixed Media on Panel | 36 x 48 inches | Framed in Natural Wood Floater Frame
Balance of Planes stands as a defining work in the collaborative Geoscape collection by Richard and Michelle Oliver. Evolving from its smaller concept study on paper, this 36 x 48-inch mixed-media piece expands the dialogue between structure and atmosphere. Here, geometry becomes poetry — intersecting planes of colour and form evoke both architectural design and the shifting landscapes of memory and light.
Influenced by László Moholy-Nagy and the Bauhaus movement, the composition explores balance through abstraction. Translucent layers of pigment, texture, and graphite glide across the surface, creating an intricate interplay of tension and calm. The soft palette of mineral greens, ochres, silvers, and clay tones suggests both the solidity of built space and the ephemeral nature of light itself.
Framed in a hand-finished natural wood floater frame, the piece embodies the Olivers’ signature aesthetic — minimalist yet deeply emotive, architectural yet intimate. Balance of Planes captures the essence of Geoscape: a meeting point between landscape and geometry, memory and design, where the seen and unseen find their quiet equilibrium.
