Painted en plein air at Convict Lake in California’s Eastern Sierra, this work captures the crisp brilliance of winter light as it moves across snow covered slopes and still alpine water. Cool blues and soft violets describe the mountain’s shadowed planes, while warm touches of reflected light shimmer across the lake’s surface. A solitary evergreen anchors the foreground, offering scale and quiet intimacy against the grandeur of the surrounding peaks.
 
Working directly from life allowed the fleeting atmosphere and changing light to guide each brushstroke, preserving the immediacy of the moment.
