La Sal Mountains, Moab began with a photograph I took while driving through the Moab desert. The photograph contained very little detail, but the experience remained vivid in my memory: the pale expanse of the desert floor, the glowing red cliffs, the dark sweep of the mountains, and the immense, changing sky. Built largely from memory, this painting reflects a new direction in my work, where observation becomes a starting point rather than a record. Through layered, expressive paint and an atmosphere shaped by recollection, I seek to convey the emotional truth of a place and the lasting impression it leaves behind.
